The Rainbow Parade 2015 in Vienna on June 20th

Kategorie: Events,

by Elena Schöber

The Rainbow Parade takes place in Vienna for the 20th time. On June 20th the probably most important event of the Lesbian, Gay and Transgender Community is hosted in Vienna. In a peaceful atmosphere the participants of the rainbow parade want to demonstrate for the rights and the equality of homosexuals. As part of Vienna Pride the rainbow parade is one of the biggest demonstrations in Austria and counts up to 100.000 participants each year. This year’s motto is “Visible 2015”.

Another step towards increased tolerance in Vienna

May and June are dedicated to the LGT-Community this year. First, the Life Ball 2015 was hosted, followed by the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna. The Rainbow Parade 2015, another big event for the LGT-Community, will be hosted in Vienna on June 20th, which puts the city into a very tolerant setting. Also official authorities put on eye on the tolerance in our society. The gay-themed traffic lights, which are supposed to remain in Vienna even after the Song Contest, are one sign into that direction. The rainbow parade is another piece of the puzzle, which should lead to an increased tolerance in Austria’s capital and highlight the problems of the discrimination of lesbians, gays and transsexuals.

The official program of the Rainbow Parade 2015 in Vienna

Starting at 11 am the participants gather together on the square next to the town hall. All the participating groups meet at the start line next to the Rathausplatz at 1 pm. The official start of the rainbow parade 2015 is at 2 pm. The participants will follow the Viennese Ringstraße against the direction of traffic. At 5 pm the moment of remembrance will be held at Schottenring. The parade is expected to finish at 7 pm at the Rathausplatz (square next to the townhall). Afterwards, you can join numerous parties in Vienna.
