Building Bridges: The Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna
After the Conchita Wurst’s sensational win with her song “Rise Like A Phoenix” at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation decided to host this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. On May 18th the first Seminfinal is going to take place and spectacular event will be officially kicked off. The venue of the Eurovision Songcontest in Vienna is going to be the Stadthalle, which is just a 2 minutes walk away from Boutiquehotel Stadthalle. Next to the shows, lots of side events are going to take place.
40 Nations take part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna
The Eurovision Song Contest is hosted under the slogan “Building Bridges”. In total 40 nations will sing for the win. 33 nation will first have to perform at the semifinals in order to secure a spot for the final show. Last years winner Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, Spain and newcomer Australia already have a spot in the final. The first semifinal is going to take place on May 18th, the second semifinal on May 20th and the big final show is going to take place on Friday May 22nd at 9 pm.
Side Events at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna
The townhall square (german: Rathausplatz) will be converted into a Eurovision Village from May 18th to May 23rd. Several fans, tourists and artists will gather together there. The two semifinals as well as the final show will be available on screen at a Public Viewing. According to the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest, it will be the biggest Eurovison Village ever seen. Each country has the chance to present itself in one of the numerous stands.
The official Eurovision Club will be hosted in the Ottakringer Brauerei from May 18th to May 23rd. The Ottakringer Brauerei is within walking distance from the Stadthalle and thus also only a short walk from our Boutiquehotel. Numerous artists, journalists and fans will celebrate through the night after the song contest shows. The week prior to the official kick-off of the Eurovision Song Contests will also be full of parties. The Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna will be hosted as a green event
For the first time in history the Eurovision Song Contest will be hosted as an official Green Event. That implies, that the whole event will be hosted according to approved environmental standards. In collaboration with the organizer, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, the Department of the Environment will start an image campaign with regards to a sustainable lifestyle. Next to several measures in line with the green organization of the Eurovision Song Contest and the usage of sustainable and regional products, the fans and guests should arrive in and move around Vienna in an environmental-friendly manner. Therefore, the tickets to the shows are valid as a ticket for public transport within Vienna. The Austrian Federal Railways grant teenagers free transport in the Austrian trains. Furthermore, the event venue will be barrier-free.
