Cycling in Vienna

No matter if you use your bike to do sports or just for fun- the bike is an allround talent which makes everyone happy. All the bike lanes across Vienna make it so easy to get around town. For everyone who does not have a bike of their own, the “bicycle metropolis” offers the so called citybikes with over 111 stations in Vienna. All you need is a credit card or an Austrian debit card. You can register online or at one of the many stations, you pay once 1 € for the registrations and off you go exploring the city until you return your bike in one of the other stations! If you want to combine riding a bike with a city tour, you should definitely check out Pedal Power or Vienna Explorer. Here you cannot just rent a bike but also book a cool bike tour. You are an absolute bike fan and would like to do something a bit more individual? Then book your tour with the Viennese Bike Expert Team from Bike Experience Vienna and ride one of the e-mountain bikes to the Viennese forest and back. Leave the city behind and enjoy pure nature passing […]

Green fashion becomes more and more fashionable…

According to Michael Michalsky, a German fashion designer, eco fashion is a macro trend in the fashion world which will soon win recognition worldwide. One of the largest European fairs for fair sustainable fashion and an ecological life style will take place this year from 3rd to 5th October at the tobacco factory in Linz. Three days there are going to be more than 180 stands at the “Wear Fair & more” with top end fashion shows and a variety of sustainable ideas. When we think of sustainable fashion, we don’t just mean that the materials are produced fair and sustainable but also that the production as well as the trade are fair certified. In order to get to know the different eco labels and certifications, the dictionary of sustainability is a pretty good guidepost. A new trend to go easy on the environment and to look good is “swapping instead of buying”. Great homepages on this topic are: http://www.topswap.at/ or http://www.kleiderkreisel.at/ The portuguese designer Daniela Pais is active on three different levels of producing sustainable fashion. 1st: She designs her fashion in a way so you can wear it in many different ways which gives you multifunctionality in your clothing. Sleep green in Vienna

Since mid March the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle offers 7 upcycling rooms in the main building, where guests can be inspired by amazing upcycling ideas and slumber totally eco-friendly! Old skis or wooden slats have been turned into wardrobes, old benchmarks were taken to make lamps extensible and old books have been used to make nice nightstands. Clothes won’t just be hung in a normal closet, but can be put into old suitcases and bent silverwear is fantastically used as a coat hook. Upcycling is basically upgrading useless material. The production of raw material is reduced hereby and not only is the use of energy is extremely decreasing, but also the emission of greenhouse gas is being reduced. Mrs. Hug stayed with us last month and has shared her experience in a wonderful blog post, which we do not want to keep from you! No matter in which of the 7 rooms one sleeps, there are many great ideas, which you can copy with a little bit of creativity at home, before you get rid of all the old boxes of odds and ends and take them to the flea market. Wanna snuggle in one of our upcycling rooms? No matter if […]

World Press Photo Exhibition

This year the World Press Photo Exhibition will take place for the 13th time in Vienna. From 5th September to 12th October the travelling exhibition will be shown at Westlicht in Westbahnstraße. The Westlicht Exhibition venue is only 2 tram stops or 8,5 minutes by foot away from the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle so basically just around the corner! In order to select the best press photos the jury had to look through 98 671 photos which were sent in by 5754 photographers coming from 132 countries. 53 photographers from 25 countries were lucky to win prizes in 9 different categories. The award of Best World Press Photo 2013 goes to John Stanmeyer. His photo shows african migrants on the coast of Djibouti city at night how they raise their phones trying to capture an inexpensive signal from their neighbor Somalia—a risky link to their relatives abroad. The exhibition is open from 11 am to 7 pm every day and on Thursdays even until 9 pm. After the exhibition we recommend you to have a bite in one of the great Viennese restaurants in the 7th district. How about the Gastwirtschaft Schilling, the Glacis Beisl or the Restaurant Wiener? Fancy a bit […]

Swimming pools in Vienna

If you’re tired of sightseeing, then spend a relaxing day in Vienna’s open-air swimming pools. Special tips are the 2 popular pools in the 22nd district: the Strandbad Alte Donau Beach Pool and the Gänsehäufel. They provide pools, playgrounds for children, nature bathing beaches along the Danube and wellness area. The Döblinger Pool, Krapfenwald Pool (in the 19th district) and the Schafberg Pool (in the 18th district) offer a wonderful view of the city and action for the whole family. Tip for rainy day is the Stadthallenbad. It is not only one of the most popular pools in Vienna, but also serves as a training center for competitive swimmers – and includes two new diving towers. The team of Boutiquehotel Stadthalle is looking forward to welcoming you.
