2017 is the international year of sustainable tourism

The United Nations declared the year 2017 as the „international year of sustainable tourism for development“. This goes hand in hand with the announced global agenda 2030 of the world touristic organisation (UNWTO) which aims on a general change of the political, economic and ecological understanding towards more sustainability. Goals of UNWTO Sustainable tourism has, as we especially know, the potential of becoming a significant factor in developing countries. Beyond this background, the UNWTO formulates the following goals: Sustainable economic growth Social inclusion and reduction of poverty Efficient use of resources, protection of the environment and clima Protection of common cultural values and diversity Agreement about common values like peace, safety and human rights A "Roadmap" lists hereby different activities for authorities and the whole tourism industry to support the defined goals and even travellers themselves are intensified addressed. Tourism already distributes a major part to the global economy.  So is already 10 % of the global GDP directly driven by tourism with an average growth rate of 4 % per year and is already the most important economic sector for many developing countries. Spring fever in Vienna

Africa Days in Vienna 2017

For the 13th year in a row, this year the Africa Days (Afrika Tage) take place from 18th August until 13th September in Vienna. 18 days non-stop this extraordinary African celebration with a lot of esprit, music, dance, international artists and a colourful bazar will light up Vienna’s Donauinsel (island in the river Donau). The festival offers a wide variety of concerts, speeches, readings and information desks and charity events. Of course, there is a special program for children, too. History of the Africa Days The Africa Days’ initiator and organiser is Medhat Abdelati who started the festival in 2004. According to him, he had the wish for a long time to bring some of his heritage to his new home country. The first festival took place in Munich according to the motto “Out of Afrika – mitten in München” (Out of Africa – into Munich’s inner-city). In Vienna the festival started in 2005. The Africa Days are organised without any public funds or sponsoring. The officials want to stay independent. The best festivals in Vienna around the river Donau

DONAUKANALTREIBEN– May 2017 This year the famous Donaukanaltreiben is taking place from the 25th-28th May for the 11th year in a row. The festival stretches along the river Donau over many kilometres from the “Spittelau” to the “Franzenzbrücke”. The cultural programm includes live concerts, fashion shows, DJ stes and much much more. Additionally, you will find a wide variety of culinary delights and a variety of sport and leisure activities. The Life Ball 2017 – Know your status!

After a year of a creative pause, the 24th Life Ball is taking place again in Vienna this year. Since 1993, the Life ball, which is hosted in favour of HIV and AIDS sufferers, is one of the biggest charity events in the world. This year, the Life Ball takes place in Vienna’s town hall on the 10th June. How it all started… The Life Ball’s face and founder is Gery Keszler, who established the charitable association Aids Life in 1992. The non-profit organisation supports people who suffer from HIV or AIDS infection and set itself the goal to inform society about the dangers of HIV and AIDS and sensitize them towards the illness. The first Life Ball took place in 1993, by that time it was only a small, originated from the gay scene, event in Vienna. But even then, Keszler managed to convince the city administration of his project and won them as a partner. Two more sponsors helped to make the ball happen. The proceeds that benefit the association Aids Life came up to 1.100.000 Austrian Schillings (about 80.000 Euro).
