Green gifts for Christmas – Part 3

Christmas, the festival of love, is coming closer and you still don’t have gifts for all your loved ones? No problem, today we are presenting last-minute gifts. There are, of course, again beautiful ideas made from upcyled and recycled materials that you can still get in time for Christmas. The worldwide first coloured pencil from the avocadostore that combines a traditional crayon with seeds for different herbs and flowers. As soon as the pencil turned into a stump, you can plant it. The different colours turn into various plants, e.g. basil, thyme, marigolds or mint. A great gift for old and young artists! A bit of romance is always a part of Christmas. The ceramic hearts known from our hotel are made regionally by the Austrian artist Margit Denz. The beautiful gems are available directly in our hotel. When you’ve been our guest in June before, you could enjoy our rooftop lavender garden in its full glory. We love the scent of fresh lavender that calms the mind and creates a relaxed atmosphere. With our lavender spray, you can take the amazing scent home with you. Of course, it can be part of our gift basket. More information is available [...]

RED NOSES Clowndoctors bring joy to hospitals

Many children are suffering from severe illnesses and have to stay in hospital for weeks, some of them even for months. They are forced to undergo serious operations, can’t see their friends anymore, have very little contact to the outside world. Since 1994 there is a glimmer of hope for Austrian children: the RED NOSES Clowndoctors. They set themselves the goal to at least bring a bit of joy to the triste hospital hallways and bring a smile to the children’s lips. That doesn’t only lighten the children’s everyday life in the hospitals but also supports the healing process. In 2003, the non-profit organization RED NOSES International was founded to be able to also help children in other countries. Until today, there are more than 300 clowns in 10 countries on the way and have helped more than 700.000 sick children in hospitals so far. This makes RED NOSES International the biggest international hospital clowns organization with clowns in Austria, Germany, Croatia, Lithuania, Palestine, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The clowns are specially trained for their mission and visit training courses every year to optimize their work. For this purpose, RED NOSES has founded its own International [...]

Green gifts for Christmas – Part 2

This week we are introducing part 2 of our Advent calendar with gift ideas for Christmas presents. Like last week’s gifts, this weeks are made with upcycled or recycled materials as well. You’ve probably heard of the tons of trash take-away coffee cups are responsible for each year. Each year 100 Billion coffee cups are thrown away. The alternatives are often made of plastic which can contain plasticisers. And these can be dangerous for our health. But you can get a great alternative: the Ecoffee Cup. The cup isn’t only a lightweight with only 125g but also very robust. It is made exclusively from natural organic bamboo fibre. A stylish backpack made from canvas and organic leather. Yes, we have that. The backpack “Michelle” is available in the FairTrade Shop and is manufactured under ecological circumstances. The eco-leather is made from nuts, fruits and barks. The irregularities in the leather show that it is a real natural product. Nowadays you should always have one at hand. It is an everyday companion, small, lightweight and practical. And usually it’s sorely missed when lost. Exactly, the usb stick. Usually though the practical companion is made of plastic and unfortunately it’s the reason [...]

Green Gifts for Christmas

The days are shorter, the stars twinkle in the night sky, the first candle has been lit. A hint of Christmas lies in the air, which makes everyone start thinking about Christmas presents. What should I get my loved ones this year? Buying presents is always a difficult task. You want them to like it but it to also be useful. Ideally, it should have been manufactured in a sustainable way. Getting all your wishes fulfilled in one present can be very challenging. Why not follow the new Upcycling trend? Or is it recycling? Upcycling and recycling - what is the difference? Everyone has an idea of what recycling is. All materials are processed in a way to make them reusable. To give an example: recycled paper isn’t as flat and white as it used to be before. The newly emerged product is of lower quality but still perfectly usable for multiple purposes - I mean, who needs pearly toilet paper? Upcycling also means reusing materials but different to recycling, the outcome isn’t of lower quality. Quite the contrary, the end product follows the principle „make new from old“. The starting product is usually old, no longer usable and unattractive. [...]
