Enjoy spring in Vienna – May 2017 has a lot to offer!

Snow is falling....it does look pretty but it also makes us think about warmer days in spring. We all are looking forward to having breakfast outside on the terrace, a bike ride through the city or a stroll through the park where we’re kissed by the sun. How good this would be! Vienna in spring is lovely, the „Prater“ (area in Vienna known for its parks and sports facilities) is flourishing, the parks fill with sun lovers and the cafés open their „Schanigärten“ (Austrian for terraces). And in our beautiful hotel the lavender starts to blossom on our lavender rooftop garden – not only a visual but also a sweet-smelling highlight. Events in Vienna in spring Apart from the visual pleasure Vienna offers in springtime, there are also some great events coming up that definitely make the metropole worth visiting. The “Stadthalle”, an event venue only a few steps away from our hotel, stages a lot of exciting events. Upcoming events include concerts of the worldwide famous bands Kiss (21st May) and Deep Purple (17th May) as well as the musician Shawn Mendes (4th May). Furthermore, performances by well-known German comedians like Dieter Nuhr (14th May) and Otto (9th and [...]

Vienna is one of the most sustainable cities worldwide

A sustainable lifestyle is important to us. Arcardis, a Dutch planning and consulting office, together with the London Centre for Economics and Business Research have conducted the so-called “Sustainable Cities Index 2016”. The Index rates cities in three categories regarding their sustainability. Our beautiful Vienna ranked 4th, a great placing right behind Zurich, Singapore and Stockholm. The Sustainable Cities Index 2016 evaluated 100 cities worldwide. The Top 10 cities are mostly European cities as well as Singapore and Seoul. American cities are ranked in the mid-range, the taillights are Asian and African cities with four Indian cities in the last 10 places. According to the director of the study, those cities have little chances to rank higher due to the consequences that follow climate change, rapid urbanisation and lack of capital. The Index is conducted in three categories: “People”, “Planet” and “Profit”. The category People inspects health, education, income equality, work-life balance, crime and housing and living costs – these indicators can be broadly thought of as capturing “quality of life”. The second category Planet inspects the “green factors” of a city, such as the use of renewable energy, energy consumption, green space within the city, greenhouse gas emissions, drinking [...]

Green gifts for Christmas – Part 3

Christmas, the festival of love, is coming closer and you still don’t have gifts for all your loved ones? No problem, today we are presenting last-minute gifts. There are, of course, again beautiful ideas made from upcyled and recycled materials that you can still get in time for Christmas. The worldwide first coloured pencil from the avocadostore that combines a traditional crayon with seeds for different herbs and flowers. As soon as the pencil turned into a stump, you can plant it. The different colours turn into various plants, e.g. basil, thyme, marigolds or mint. A great gift for old and young artists! A bit of romance is always a part of Christmas. The ceramic hearts known from our hotel are made regionally by the Austrian artist Margit Denz. The beautiful gems are available directly in our hotel. When you’ve been our guest in June before, you could enjoy our rooftop lavender garden in its full glory. We love the scent of fresh lavender that calms the mind and creates a relaxed atmosphere. With our lavender spray, you can take the amazing scent home with you. Of course, it can be part of our gift basket. More information is available [...]

RED NOSES Clowndoctors bring joy to hospitals

Many children are suffering from severe illnesses and have to stay in hospital for weeks, some of them even for months. They are forced to undergo serious operations, can’t see their friends anymore, have very little contact to the outside world. Since 1994 there is a glimmer of hope for Austrian children: the RED NOSES Clowndoctors. They set themselves the goal to at least bring a bit of joy to the triste hospital hallways and bring a smile to the children’s lips. That doesn’t only lighten the children’s everyday life in the hospitals but also supports the healing process. In 2003, the non-profit organization RED NOSES International was founded to be able to also help children in other countries. Until today, there are more than 300 clowns in 10 countries on the way and have helped more than 700.000 sick children in hospitals so far. This makes RED NOSES International the biggest international hospital clowns organization with clowns in Austria, Germany, Croatia, Lithuania, Palestine, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The clowns are specially trained for their mission and visit training courses every year to optimize their work. For this purpose, RED NOSES has founded its own International [...]
