Imperial Furniture Museum

The Hofmobiliendepot is located in the 7th district, close to Westbahnhof train and underground station. It is a very particular exhibit hall, showing imperial furniture of over 3 centuries. The museum offers impressions of architecture, design and furniture. Originally the Habsburgs used to store their furniture there. A tour through the museum is possible with an audio guide, offering insights on the Travelling Court (the Habsburgs used to move quite frequently), the depository, as well as the personal furniture of Empress Maria Theresia or Emperors Franz Josef or Franz II. The changing temporary exhibition currently shows “The perfect paper household. Upper middle class life at the times of Mozart”. Books with detailed dolls houses are displayed by the famous Augsburger Klebealbum.

Loos Bar Vienna- The Original

What shall you do in the city of Vienna, which offers you sooooo many opportunities so you do not even know where to start first? We recommend, you look for a cool bar where you can sit down and chill with a nice cocktail, meanwhile you are planning the rest of the days you are here. The Loos American Bar is one of the best addresses in the city. It was designed by Mr. Adolf Loos, an arquitect with visions and a modern way of thinking, imported directly from the United States in 1908. It was a time where everything was different, during the time of the Austrian Emperor. The bar is unchanged until today and has still the timeless and shiny look from before. Considered an American Bar, it is a bit small but it is THE bar in Vienna which you should pay a visit without a doubt. These days the bar is landmarked which makes it even more special! For now over 20 years the bar is run by Marianne Kohn and a man only staff is responsible for the best cocktails ever tasted. Why there are only men behind the bar, nobody knows but one thing we […]

Green fashion becomes more and more fashionable…

According to Michael Michalsky, a German fashion designer, eco fashion is a macro trend in the fashion world which will soon win recognition worldwide. One of the largest European fairs for fair sustainable fashion and an ecological life style will take place this year from 3rd to 5th October at the tobacco factory in Linz. Three days there are going to be more than 180 stands at the “Wear Fair & more” with top end fashion shows and a variety of sustainable ideas. When we think of sustainable fashion, we don’t just mean that the materials are produced fair and sustainable but also that the production as well as the trade are fair certified. In order to get to know the different eco labels and certifications, the dictionary of sustainability is a pretty good guidepost. A new trend to go easy on the environment and to look good is “swapping instead of buying”. Great homepages on this topic are: http://www.topswap.at/ or http://www.kleiderkreisel.at/ The portuguese designer Daniela Pais is active on three different levels of producing sustainable fashion. 1st: She designs her fashion in a way so you can wear it in many different ways which gives you multifunctionality in your clothing. Sleep green in Vienna

Since mid March the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle offers 7 upcycling rooms in the main building, where guests can be inspired by amazing upcycling ideas and slumber totally eco-friendly! Old skis or wooden slats have been turned into wardrobes, old benchmarks were taken to make lamps extensible and old books have been used to make nice nightstands. Clothes won’t just be hung in a normal closet, but can be put into old suitcases and bent silverwear is fantastically used as a coat hook. Upcycling is basically upgrading useless material. The production of raw material is reduced hereby and not only is the use of energy is extremely decreasing, but also the emission of greenhouse gas is being reduced. Mrs. Hug stayed with us last month and has shared her experience in a wonderful blog post, which we do not want to keep from you! No matter in which of the 7 rooms one sleeps, there are many great ideas, which you can copy with a little bit of creativity at home, before you get rid of all the old boxes of odds and ends and take them to the flea market. Wanna snuggle in one of our upcycling rooms? No matter if […]
