From Apfelstrudel to Zentralfriedhof

by Elena Schöber

Finally, it’s there – the snow! And for all of those who still have Vienna on their bucket-list: Now the time has come to put your project into action. For that reason in the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle we have a New Year’s Resolution Package until the 29th of February 2016 for our guests up in our sleeves. To make sure that nobody needs to miss out on the treasures of wintery Vienna we also reveal our favorite spots for the cold season.

Visitors with a sweet tooth should definitely visit the show bakery in Schönbrunn Palace. Here the traditional Viennese Apfelstrudel is still home-baked and just tastes incredibly good. If watching and tasting is not enough it’s also possible to attend a Strudel-workshop in the Palace`s “Hofbackstube”. According to the original recipe the participants are learning the fine art of the Viennese Apfelstrudel – including a frame worthy baking diploma.

A special experience is to go skating at one of the many ice rinks – perfect is the one directly in front of the city hall – and afterwards warming up with the Viennese coffee specialty Wiener Melange. Our all-time favorite: The Café Museum (and especially its delicious cakes).

With its elaborately created graves and mausoleums the Zentralfriedhof is already quite impressive during the summer season. However, in winter when the white blanket of snow is covering the cemetery visitors experience a very special mood there. It’s always worth to take a wintery walk there.

More hints and ideas for Vienna during wintertime can be found here. Enjoy trying out Vienna’s frosty hot spots!
