Vienna wine hiking

by Elena Schöber

The Vienna wine-hiking days will take place this weekend on September 24th and 25th. There are two different routes leading through the Viennese vineyards, offering breathtaking views, healthy & sporty activity and lots and lots of opportunities to sit down and taste Viennese wine and local food in one of the Heurigen along the way.

Vienna is the only metropolis with more than 700 hectares of vinyards, producing more than 19 million glasses of wine each year. The Viennese vinyards have also become a recreation area for Vienna’s residents. You do not need to go far and feel like you are way out of town enjoying a relaxing afternoon away from the busy streets of Vienna.

The 2 hiking routes look as follows:

1- Strebersdorf to Stammersdorf: You can reach Strebersdorf by tram 26 or bus 32A and walk for about 10 kilometres. If this is too much, there are short cuts and bus lines in case you prefer to take it easy.

2- Neustift am Walde to Nussdorf: You can reach Neustift am Walde by bus 35A. Again it is about 10 kilometres if you walk all the way, but there are also a couple of bus stops in between which should make the hike easierJ

The weather should be sunny and temperatures at around 19 degrees should make your hike enjoyable!!
