Vienna City Marathon
This weekend is the weekend of the 28th Vienna City Marathon. 30,000 participants, 100 nations, UN to Heldenplatz. These are the hard facts. This year’s Vienna City Marathon’s theme is:“MaraDonne”, focusing on women and running.
Haile Gebrselassie, Olympic champion, world champion, holder of the marathon world-record will participate in the half-marathon competition.
There are also numerous side events such as the Vienna Sports World exhibition which will take place at Messe Centre (U2 Messe) on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th of April from 10 am to 6 pm. There you will get your starting number and you will find more than 70 companies who will exhibit their products and services related to the Vienna City Marathon and to running in general.
There will also be an international friendship party with music, culinary delights and lots of fun to get into the right mood for the Vienna City Marathon. It will take place on Saturday, April 16th at Rathaus from 2.30 pm to 7 pm.
The marathon itself will start on Sunday, the 17th of April at 9:00 am and will end at 3 pm. It’s length 42.195km. There will be 9,000 participants.
But the Vienna City Marathon is not the only competition that will take place. There are various levels for the different participants.
The ANKER half-marathon will also start at 9 am and end at 12 noon. It’s length 21.0975 km. 11,000 participants will try their best in this competition.
The tele.ring Relay Marathon with a length of 42.195 km will be run by 4 runners in each team. The first one completing 16km, the second one 5km, the third one 9km and the fourth one 11km. There will be 2500 teams competing.
The Pink Ribbon Run 2011 is limited to 2.5 km and the net proceeds will go to the Austrian Cancer Trust for Pink Ribbon. It starts at 2 pm. There will not be any timekeeping.
Coca Cola Run 4.2 is meant to be for children and teenagers between the age of 10 and 18. It’s length is limited to 4.2km starting at 8:30 am.
Coca Cola Run 1.0 Is the marathon-light version for children below the age of 10. The entry limit is 2,000 participants. Timekeeping will not be provided. It starts at 8:30 am.
