The Lobau – the green oasis in Vienna
With more than 1,8 million residents Vienna is the second biggest city in the German speaking countries. Despite its size, the city of Vienna is well known for its many green areas. The Lobau in the east of Vienna can be deemed the jungle of Vienna. Once you literally dive into that jungle, you will not notice that the city of Vienna is that close. This is the reason why we want to present the recreational area of the Lobau to our guests in our central hotel in Vienna.
The jungle in Vienna
The Lobau is part of the national park Donau-Auen and covers an area of around 2.300 hectare, which equals to a third of the entire area of the national park. Not far from the city center of Vienna a breathtaking biodiversity can be noticed in the Lobau. In total, 800 plants, 130 bird species as well as 8 reptile, 13 amphibian and 60 fish species live in the Lobau. From beavers to gray heron: you will find an enormous biodiversity here. Therefore, the Lobau offers a high recreational value to many residents of Vienna. Thus, guests in our central hotel should make use of this value as well.
Hiking, boat tours or swimming in the Lobau
The Lobau is a recreational area, which offers a lot of activities. There are many signposted hiking and cycling path, which will allow you to enjoy the biodiversity and the green atmosphere of the Lobau in Vienna in a very special way. If you want to follow the Napoleon hiking trail, you will not only have the opportunity to enjoy the nature but also have the chance to follow the historic paths of the battle at Aspern. Accordingly, obelisks were raised at the most important points of the route and 2 museums complement the offer. A boat ride from the center of Vienna to the Lobau
The journey to the Lobau can be very convenient. The NationalparkBoat brings you from the inner city to the Lobau via the danube channel. At least 6 passengers are required for that purpose. Therefore, you should sign up for the boat ride beforehand (+43-1-4000-49495). The NationalparkBoat leaves daily (between May 2nd and October 26th) at 9 am at the Salztorbrücke on the danube channel. A phenomenon: the jungle close to the big city
