RED NOSES Clowndoctors bring joy to hospitals

Kategorie: General,

by Elena Schöber

Many children are suffering from severe illnesses and have to stay in hospital for weeks, some of them even for months. They are forced to undergo serious operations, can’t see their friends anymore, have very little contact to the outside world. Since 1994 there is a glimmer of hope for Austrian children: the RED NOSES Clowndoctors. They set themselves the goal to at least bring a bit of joy to the triste hospital hallways and bring a smile to the children’s lips. That doesn’t only lighten the children’s everyday life in the hospitals but also supports the healing process.

In 2003, the non-profit organization RED NOSES International was founded to be able to also help children in other countries. Until today, there are more than 300 clowns in 10 countries on the way and have helped more than 700.000 sick children in hospitals so far. This makes RED NOSES International the biggest international hospital clowns organization with clowns in Austria, Germany, Croatia, Lithuania, Palestine, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

The clowns are specially trained for their mission and visit training courses every year to optimize their work. For this purpose, RED NOSES has founded its own International School for Humor (ISH) in Vienna. Here the artists are professionally trained and undergo high quality further training.

Little Miracles book

The clown’s stories have been written down in the book “Little Miracles”. The book gives us an insight of the clown’s daily work in hospitals. 39 visits are retold in the book that let us feel the power of humor in difficult times. The book is available as a print copy or an e-book, e.g. via Amazon.

The income from the book sale goes directly to the organization and therefore to the children. A great gift for Christmas!
