Popular fashion labels are often in the media, but not only for positive reasons. Unfair working conditions, accusations of promoting child labour or unfair remuneration of work forces are allegedly common practices in the fashion industry. These are negative trends, which are unfortunately part of the increased globalisation. In Vienna ebenBERG, an ethical concept store close to the shopping street Mariahilferstraße, was established to focus on fair production conditions and remuneration. Fashion labels and own creations under fair conditions
Laura Ebenberg presents her own creations and products of other ethical fashion labels in her small store in a side street of the shopping street Mariahilferstraße. These products are characterized by fair production and work conditions. Each product was sustainably and fairly traded and ecologically produced. Principally Laura Ebenberg wants to transport the main value of fashion: Her customers should like her clothes, while fair production conditions should become a new norm in the fashion world.
Rana Plaza: a tragedy that provoked a step towards fairer production conditions in the fashion world
On April 24th 2013 the textile production site Rana Plaza in Bangladesh collapsed. 1100 human beings died and 2400 human beings were seriously injured during this tragedy, which partly led to a change of thinking in the fashion world. Based on Laura Ebenberg’s initiative numerous experts in the fashion scene in Austria participated in the first Fashion Revolution Day one year after the tragedy. In total, 71 countries participated in the initiative. Laura Ebenberg wants to highlight the fact that an alternative fashion world is not out of sight and wants to cooperate with big fashion chains to change their behaviour and enable fair production conditions and remuneration. She already decided to focus on ethical concepts during her education in the fashion school.
Fashionable and ecological
The best Bio-Design labels are presented at ebenBERG. Armed Angels and their trendy skirts and graffiti shirts, SlowMo from Berlin with trenfy paras as well as Fin, the first eco-label world wide, are among these labels. All the clothes, which are sold in the ethical concept store, follow the concept of fair production conditions and fair remuneration of workers.

If our guests in our green hotel in Vienna want to plan a shopping tour, you can just get on the metro at U3 Westbahnhof and leave the metro two stations later at Neubaugasse. ebenBERG is located in Neubaugasse 4, in a side street of the Mariahilferstraße, Vienna’s biggest shopping street.
