The Motto is probably THE in-restaurant of Vienna with an excellent menu. Everyone who considers themselves important and beautiful will meet for a drink in the stylish, but very cosy bar. The audience is rather mixed and from time to time, you can even spot some celebrities there.

The legendary restaurant in the LGBT centre of Vienna, the Türkis Rosa Lila Villa, is the heart of the gay and lesbian scene around the Naschmarkt. The beautiful inner yard is an oasis in the middle of the city.

A traditional Viennese coffeehouse still from imperial times is the Café Savoy at the Naschmarkt where a colourful flea market takes place on Saturdays. The absolute eyecatcher are the giant mirrors.

Opened in Summer 2011, the Fett+Zucker has meanwhile developed into a benchmark of the scene. The small espresso bar offers excellent cakes, also in vegan or gluten- and lactose-free versions.

The audience in the Village is diverse and the atmosphere there is relaxed and communicative. The nice waiters and delicious drinks are guaranteeing that. The bar is well-frequented and the guests are very outgoing.

The City Bar is directly located vis-à-vis from Vienna’s oldest gay club, the Why Not. It is the perfect starting point for a long party night.

The Why Not offers a classical disco programme every Friday and Saturday. The small downtown disco has been existing for decades and still enjoys great popularity among young and old. It can get really hot on the dance floor there.

With the Pitbull, Vienna has its first Bear & Butch Clubbing. Since the opening in 2009, the Pitbull-Team is providing for pure testosterone with sudatory beats.


G.Spot – this party which takes place once in a month is addressed to lesbians but also to gays and offers changing musical topics like Electronic, House, Tribal, Techno and much else, a welcome alternative to the gay-lesbian disco routine.


Queer:Beat – Here, LGBT’s and friends can shake it off to Indierock, Electronic and Charts. Several DJ’s fill the young and dance crazy audience with sound.

The Circus:

The Circus is a giant LGBT-spectacle which takes place in irregular distances in the Arena Vienna. International Top-DJ’s and spectacular shows draw a dance-crazy audience.


Miss Candy, Austria’s most popular Drag Queen and inventor of various party institutions, provides for a sudatory dancing mood among the scene audience with House music, Disco sounds and Garage Beats.


Fleischmarkt is the first queer event in Vienna which celebrates alternative independent music and life culture. You can look forward to Rock sounds and Electronic beats. For gay classics like “I will survive” or “YMCA” however, you will wait in vain.

Kibbutz Klub:

Unfortunately, the Kibbutz Klub only takes place irregularly. Hosted by the “QueerHebrews”, everybody is welcome here – no matter whether lesbian, gay, transsexual, hetero, hipster, Jewish, non-Jewish, local or non-native. You will dance to Israeli music and Eurotrash.

Imperial Madness:

Four to five times a year, Jacques Patriaque hosts his party Imperial Madness in the Säulenhalle: the perfect combination of Boylesque, Burlesque, fine Electronic music and mostly with a Drag superstar from the US-Hit “RuPaul’s Drag Race” as an entertainer.

Wiener Freiheit:

For more than 25 years, the Wiener Freiheit has been existing in the 5th district of Vienna now: the pub in 80ies style has opened Fridays and Saturday from 9pm to 4am.

Männer auf Touren – Outdoor sports for gay men

“Männer auf Touren” is not a fixed group where you have to make friends first, but rather an open platform which coordinates outdoor activities. The participation is free. Of course, you have to account for the travel costs yourself. Events without special indication are open for gay men of every age. Events with the title “Junx auf Touren” are primarily addressed to the target audience of young gay men until the middle of their 30ies.

Resis.danse – Women’s dance club

This noncommercial corporation is an independent club where all of the organisational tasks are performed on a voluntary basis. Despite informal structures, they have achieved to ensure a certain continuity over years whereby standard dancing for women in Vienna could become established.

LMC Vienna – Leather and Motorbike Community

The society has been founded in 1985 and is Austria’s gay leather and fetish club. The minimum age of members is 18 years and the club is only for men. The LMC Vienna has been the heart and the engine of the gay fetish community in Austria for more than 30 years now.

Les Schuh Schuh – Austria’s queer dance formation

Les Schuh Schuh is Austria’s only queer dance formation. The group has become famous for its fancy and weird dance interludes at the Rainbow and the Rose ball for more than a decade now. Due to the dissolution of the traditional woman-man-couple at the social dance through partner-swapping, changes of leadership and crossdressing, traditional role models are satirized and questioned.

Since the first of January in 2010, also homosexual couples can secure their partnership legally. Festive ceremonies in locations like the Albertina or the Vienna big wheel offer a great ambience for a beautiful wedding feast. Lesbian and gay couples can enter into the bond of marriage in many places in Vienna. Either modestly and just registering the partnership at the register office or more pompous like in the Hofburg or the Kunsthaus. The registration is possible for all full-aged Austrians, but also for homosexuals from other countries. You only need a few documents for it. The registered partnership will only be recognized in countries, where a registered partnership is licit.
