Haus des Meeres (house of the sea)

Haus des Meeres spans over 4,000 m² where you can observe over 10,000 animals. From sharks, turtles, and crocodiles to snakes, all kinds of fish, and even birds and monkeys. There's always something new to discover. The two-story shark tank is especially impressive, containing 300,000 liters of water. Get closer to sharks than you've ever been! Prater

Vienna's Prater amusement park is full of attractions for both young and old. The Prater Tower, at 117 meters high, is the tallest chain carousel in all of Austria. Only the bravest children and parents dare ride it. If you're afraid of heights, it might be best to pass on this one. Same goes for the Giant Ferris Wheel (Riesenrad), one of Vienna's most iconic sights. This 65-meter high Ferris wheel offers a beautiful view of the entire city. It's an experience no visitor to Vienna should miss! For kids, a ride in the miniature steam-engine train is a very special adventure. The Old Vienna ghost train is also specially designed for our smaller visitors, taking kids on a ride through a colorful fantasy world.

Vienna Urania Puppet Theater

Children follow Kasperl and Pezi into a wondrous and funny world through a  fascinating, fun, and exciting story. This is Vienna's most famous puppet theater and guaranteed fun for your children. Children will be entranced by the exciting adventures and non-stop laughs.

Natural History Museum

The Vienna Natural History museum is full of exciting and educational discoveries for your children. The dino room displays skeletons and remains of these prehistoric giants. A life-size display of a huge allosaurus gives a scary roar that booms though the hall. A life-sized model of a terror bird amazes children, as they discover everything there is to know about dinosaurs.
In the anthropology room, the focus turns to the development of humanity. Skeletons of early humans are on display, teaching visitors about human evolution. A virtual skeleton can be examined by microscope, uncovering the specimen's age, gender, and cause of death. The meteorite room features the largest collection of meteorites on earth, with a total of 1,100 rocks that fell from the sky to be marveled at. If you want to combine learning with fun and excitement, take your children to the Natural History Museum.

Albertina

The Albertina Art Museum aims to make the beautiful world of art and painting accessible to children, and to actively support their creativity. Children 5 years and up can participate in the “Riddle Rally', for a fun new way to learn more about the artists and works of art. The different arts and crafts stations let the kids’ own creativity shine. Enjoy an education and creative experience for the whole family at Albertina!

Firefighter Museum

Firefighters still hold a certain fascination for children. Vienna's Central Fire Department offers children the chance to learn about how fire departments work, what type of equipment they use, and about firefighters’ daily lives.
There are also numerous old helmets and uniforms on display, and an old, 1912 fire engine that was specially renovated for the museum is the hottest attraction. Step into the world of firefighters and learn all about what takes place in Vienna's Central Fire Department alongside your children.

Mini Mak

The Museum for Applied Arts opens at 11 AM with the MINI MAK. Riddle Rallies and workshops invite children to learn and discover the exhibition through play. allowing them to approach art in a way that's fun for them. The museum is free on Saturdays. Normally, accompanying adults over the age of 19 pay €5.50 and children under the age of 6 visit the MAK for free. Once a month, MAK4FAMILY takes place on Saturday: this tour is specially designed for families, and takes you through the entire museum.

Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is a paradise for nature lovers and plant enthusiasts. Join your children in discovering the wonderful, exotic plant world of the Vienna Botanical Garden. Explore the diversity of nature, and let the unique beauty of over 1,500 plants and over 600 species and types enchant you. Foreign plants are especially interesting to children. For example, the garden includes conifers from other regions, as well as exotic lotus flowers floating in a 300 m²  pond. And best of all: admission is free.

Danube Island Water Park

A wonderful water park welcomes children on the Danube island. The park is 5,000 m² wide, and lies at the foot of a powerful wind turbine. Cinemagic is a themed theater that's designed for younger audiences. Kids from 3 years and up can come watch exciting movies for kids and young adults, or fun cartoons. The program often includes a number of award-winning children's movies. The picture-book theater was specially developed for toddlers. A storyteller and accompanying live music bring a “movie” to life through picture books.

Lesofantenfest

This 3-week long festival celebrating heavy readers is organized by the Vienna city libraries. Clown shows and puppet theaters appear at dozens of different locations. There are readings, concerts, and film screenings. A particular highlight is the adventure evening in the book jungle. The evening starts with a child-friendly theater performance, followed by the opportunity to produce a new piece right there in the theater. The newly developed play is performed at midnight, after which the theater turns into a giant slumber party, with sleeping bags. Parents pick up their children after breakfast.

Travelling by public transport - What discounts are available for children and young people in Vienna?
Children who are not yet of school age generally travel free of charge. Older children and young people up to their 15th birthday also travel free of charge on the Wiener Lienen during Vienna's school holidays, on Sundays and public holidays and on 2 and 15 November.

Child-friendly restaurants in Vienna
A visit to the organic restaurant St. Josef can be combined with a trip to the Haus des Meeres. The organic vegetarian restaurant is an 8-minute walk from the Haus des Meeres and offers lunch menus, soups and a salad buffet.

15 minutes' walk from Schönbrunn is the Hollerei. There you can find children's portions, chairs and toys.
