Vienna’s Advent Magic

The famous square at the city hall in the city centre of Vienna will become once again a Christmas advent magic during Christmas. Colorful lighted booths, festive decorated Christmas trees and the brightly lighted city hall provide an unforgettable Christmas atmosphere. There are booths for children where they can do handicrafts and for adults are about 150 booths selling Christmas presents, decoration stuff or warm mulled wine.

Altwiener Christkindlmarkt

Altwiener Christkindl Market

The “Altwiener Christkindl Market” offers 60 different booths. The colorful decorated Christmas village has a special festive atmosphere. For children there are many programs that start at 10 AM are run daily including a special Christmas punch theatre. On the weekends there is trade art and a musical program that entertains young and old ones. The historic Altwiener Christkindlmarkt is an absolut must for every visitor in Vienna.

Christmas Village Belvedere Castle

In front of an imperial view is the wonderful, festive Christmas village. The bright lighted castle Belvedere in the background and the chic decorated booths have the charm of the pre-Christmas time. This year the Christmas village takes place for the 11th time and shows stylish baroque design and over 40 high quality booths. Gastronomic booths with extraordinary Christmas food are real delicacies for the gourmet.

The wonderful Christmas village at the Maria Theresien square has about 70 booths and is a little smaller than Vienna’s Advent Magic, but has also very original present ideas and a unique Christmas atmosphere. A popular meeting point for young and old. From December 27th the romantic Christmas village transforms in a colorful New Year’s Eve village.

The Christmas village Old AKH takes place on the beautiful parking lot of the former hospital. Lovely builded cottages and nice decorations, chain of lights and colorful glass globes create a Christmas magic. The Christmas village at the castle Hof takes place every year in front of an imperial scenery. With more than 100 booths this is one of the biggest Christmas villages in Vienna. The traditional ambience in Meierhof let the visitors feel the pleasure of a traditional rural Christmas.

Culture and Christmas Market Castle Schönbrunn

In front of an impressive scenery, Vienna’s culture and Christmas market at the castle Schönbrunn takes place. About 80 booths present colorful and bright lighted their trade art. The cottages are decorated in a unique design and have many small Christmas presents from carved toys to homemade soap with cinnamon aroma. The manger, carved by Franz Oberschneider, is underneath a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and attracts many visitors.

The Türkenschanzpark transforms into a magic Christmas market during the Christmas time with great support of Radio Energy. Christmas Concerts



At the Konzerthaus are also this year both Christmas concerts on December 18th & 19th. More than 150 artists of the chorus and orchestra will perform classical Christmas songs surrounded by Christmassy decoration and atmosphere. The traditional Christmas song like “Leise rieselt der Schnee” or “Stille Nacht” will be lovely rearranged and played with pure precision and passion by the ORF Radio-Symphony Orchestra Vienna. As a further highlight famous international soloists will sing Christmas songs from their home countries.

Castle Schönbrunn

At the orangery Schönbrunn already in the 18th century imperial events and grandiose concerts have taken place. This year the Schönbrunner Castle Orchestra will be arranging a classical atmosphere during the Christmas time. Accompanied by soloists and ballet dancers the orchestra will play famous works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Baptist Strauss. If you are a fan of classical music and you want to spend Christmas in a magnificent ambience at the orangery in the castle Schönbrunn, then you should not hesitate and buy some tickets for the Christmas concert. The concert takes place on December 24th at 3PM.
