The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
There are goals we want to reach, and goals we simply have to reach!
On September 25, 2015, all 193 member states of the United Nations General Assembly ratified the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This agenda includes 17 sustainable development goals that address social, ecological, and economic aspects, and aim for nothing less than the "transformation of our world".
These SDGs express a new understanding of the interconnected relationships between poverty, environmental destruction, inequality, and production and consumption patterns, and corruption.
We all know that certain problems must be addressed all over the world and at the same time, rather than limited to regional or thematic approaches. The universality of this agenda means that all goals apply to all countries. The responsibility for reaching these goals exists at both national and international levels.
Sustainability has always been a topic that is very important to Boutiquehotel Stadthalle’s guests, employees and partner companies. That’s why it simply makes sense to be a leader in the implementation of environmentally friendly business strategies in the hotel sector, instead of just talking about them.
The 17 goals and the numerous sub-goals of the United Nations have inspired our operations here at the hotel, and shown us how to integrate sustainable practices into our everyday work.
Every day, Boutiquehotel Stadthalle seeks to comprehend the essence of these goals, and integrate them into our work. And we get better day after day. Over the past few years, we’ve adapted a number of our processes and can now proudly say that we’ve getting very, very close to achieving these goals.
Even more room for sustainability
Our most ambitious and time-intensive goal is to renovate 16 rooms plus the breakfast room, which, following renovation, will each be dedicated to one of our Sustainable Development Goals.
We are working with Gabarage company, a social enterprise in our neighborhood, to bring this exciting project to life. Each room will use upcycled furniture created in-house to raise awareness about its sustainability goal, and will respond to humanity’s most important goals with charm and elegance.
5 rooms and the breakfast area are scheduled for renovation in 2019, and the unique results will shine a spotlight on Social Development Goals 2, 7, 8, 13, 15 and 16.
