It’s all about the bikes!

Summer is just around the corner and so is the Day of the Bike, which has been celebrated on 3rd July since 1998. The bicycle is not only the environmentally friendliest and healthiest method of transportation, but these days even the hippest. Never before has Vienna had more cyclists than in 2014 and the tendency is still going up. In Austria people have invested an unbelievable 100 Million Euros for e-bikes.

Sightseeing in Vienna by Bike

In and around Vienna there are plenty of terrific options to explore and June is the month with many great events for bike fans.

You could register for a free bicycle tour from the Stuwer quarter to the North Train Station quarter on 12th June, just in time for Emission Friday, and discover a different side of Vienna.

Or you could cycle around the most beautiful boulevard in the world (The Ring is Vienna’s most ridden bike path) with many other cyclists, and also completely car free on 19th June with cycling group Critical Mass. The meeting point is as every 3rd Friday of the month at the Schwarzenbergplatz at 4:30pm. This is an event which you will not forget!

The 5th Viennese RADpaRADE (bike parade) on 21st June will have a new route over the Reichsbrücke and should be in every family’s calendar. Last year, there were over 8000 people cycling. Starting point is always the Burgtheater at midday. The tour leads you through the Schottenring over the Franz-Josefs-Kai and the Praterstraße directly to the Praterstern. The tour will finish at the Kaiserwiese in front of the ferris wheel, where you can enjoy a picnic at around 1:30pm. Of course this year there will be also bands playing along the tour to create an awesome atmosphere for this epic event.

The perfect way to accommodate yourself and your bike (we have a bicycle garage) close to the Gürtel bike path is the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle. And everyone who arrives by bike will receive a 10 % discount on direct bookings!

Always worth mentioning:

The 7 bike tours through Vienna: Bernsteinroute, Citydurchfahrt, Donaukanalweg, Donauradweg 1, Gürtelradweg, Ring-Runde, Wientalradweg.

And the App from “Bike Citizens” with real time navigation and voice navigation, good and save routes from A to B and tour suggestions for Vienna. The App even knows one way streets which are open for cyclists and bus lanes. It also navigates you down small side streets without any problems, and knows great shortcuts. You can download it from the App Store for your Iphone or Android Smartphone.
