Since 2007, the Vienna Pride takes place annually with its popular Rainbow Parade which attracts masses of visitors from all over the world each year again. Moreover, there is a really strong LGBT community and numerous other events and leisure time facilities which cater especially to this target group here. But that is not all! Next year, the Austrian capital city will get the incomparable chance to set an international example of diversity and acceptance at the EuroPride 2019. We will reveal everything you have to know about it in the following:
About the Event
The EuroPride is an international LGBT+ event with Pride Parade which is organised by a different European city each year which normally stands out due to an established queer community and versatile Gay Pride events. Vienna was accorded the honour of arranging this event already in 2001 and will also be host to it next year again from the 1st until the 16th of June. More than a million visitors are expected to join this major event! The motto reads “visions of pride” and as it is a collaborative project of the whole scene, everyone is invited to realise and to share their personal visions with the others at the EuroPride. Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, intersexual and queer people from all over the world can light a beacon of pride and send a wide-reaching message of diversity and equality beyond the borders. This variety is in addition not only represented by the EuroPride 2019 ambassador Conchita Wurst, but also reflects in the versatile programme. Aside from the opening and closing ceremony and a human rights conference, especially the Rainbow Parade on the 15th of June 2019 which is accompanied by numerous cultural and social activities, forms the highlight of the event.
Special occasions for celebrating
According to Lui Fidelsberger, the chairlady of HOSI (Homosexual Initiative) Vienna, the aim of the EuroPride 2019 is to grant every member of the LGBTIQ community the opportunity to realise their projects, to strengthen and to celebrate their identity together and to thereby stand up for a fairer future. Aside from that, there will be two important anniversaries to celebrate in 2019! On the one hand, the HOSI Vienna will turn 40. And on the other hand, the original cause of the worldwide Pride Parades, the riots after police attacks on the gay bar Stonewall Inn in New York in June 1969, will date back 50 years then.
We from the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle are very much looking forward to standing up for human rights and tolerance together with you and hope that we can welcome many visitors of the EuroPride 2019. By the way, we have also created a comprehensive list with numerous restaurants, bars, cafés, clubs, events, sports clubs and shopping locations for LGBT’s in Vienna. Get inspired and stop by at any time!
