Today is the astronomical beginning of spring which means that we hopefully can look forward to sunshine, warmer temperatures and blooming plants again soon! And when spring is just around the corner, also Easter won’t be long in coming. We will reveal how you can shape the holidays sustainably together with your family in the following:

The decorations

The adequate Easter decorations must not be missing, of course! But much more atmospheric than plastic articles from the store, are self-made Easter decorations of natural material, for sure. Especially at the beginning of spring, nature awakens from her winter sleep and is in full bloom again. Why not taking your kids on a treasure hunt outside and see what you can find? From branches and moos, great Easter baskets can be created, decorated with feathers, flowers and what else you can discover on your tour. This will look much more impressive than a loveless Easter basket with artificial grass from the supermarket. Your natural baskets are best filled with organic Fairtrade chocolate Easter bunnies which are not unnecessarily lavishly packed. Also from cardboard, wood or salt dough, awesome decorations can be crafted. Especially children normally enjoy tinkering for Easter together with their parents very much. When purchasing the ingredients for your Easter feast, you should be mindful of their origins as well and prefer organic products from your region which will leave little plastic waste afterwards.

Dyeing eggs

You and your family do not even have to renounce colourful eggs. However, you should by no means buy already dyed eggs from the supermarket as they usually come from caged or barn egg productions. Better purchase organic free-range eggs from the local farmer which you can dye yourself together with your children. If you rub them in vinegar before, you will achieve a better colour saturation, by the way. Natural colours, completely without toxics can easily be made by yourself. Turmeric, beetroot, spinach and elderflower are perfectly suited as ecological egg dyes. With leaves and blossoms, you can additionally leave gorgeous stamps on your egg. Just wet the leave a little, press it on the egg and knot it firmly into an old nylon stocking, before putting it into the colour brew. Even easier, individual patterns can be created with an rubber band which is wrapped around the egg before dyeing. Just let your creativity run free, surely you will have many more great ideas!
