Ms Reitterer, the hotel owner, invited her team to an extended and delayed Christmas party. First, the team went to Güssing, a town in Burgenland, which became famous for its policy on renewable energy. Using local resources to cover the demand on energy in the area was the simple and clear plan of Güssing two decades ago. Today it has become a European showcase. Since 2001 Güssing has been producing energy through a biomass power station very successfully. The European Centre for Renewable Energy, located in Güssing, continues research & development in this field and hopes to be able to pass its success story on to other regions and areas in Europe and around the world!
We heard a lecture about Güssing’s history, the development of the biomass power station and the many success stories Güssing has to tell today. The lecture, held by Mr. Bernhard Deutsch, project manager at the European Centre for Renewable Energy, as well as mayor of Strem, was very informative and made apparent how easy it can be to use the right energy sensibly and responsibly.
After the lecture we went to Falkensteiner Balance Resort hotel in Stegersbach. Ready for an extended swim, relaxing time in the sauna, long walks or simply a good afternoon nap, we checked into this nice hotel.
The afternoon we spent using the facilities of the hotel and in the evening we walked to an excellent restaurant in the vicinity of the hotel. The 4 course meal, including Austrian specialities, was a great treat, but the deserts were what most of us fell for:-). After a good night sleep and an extended breakfast the trip back home passed by quietly as most of us were sleeping:-) !
Here are some impressions of our beautiful weekend! Enjoy!
