This weekend Vienna celebrates its bicycles. In 2011 there were 11,061 people riding their bikes through the city on an average working day. The city of Vienna is working hard to extend the net of bicycle lanes. Currently there are 1,206 kilometres of bicycle lanes in the city. And the more people ride their bikes the better the quality of life.
Therefore, the Bike Festival at Rathausplatz is an opportunity for all those who like their bikes, to get together and visit more than 100 exhibitors at the bicycle fair, test your skills or simply watch the International Dirt-Contest Vienna Air King competition, where 50 international dirt-riders will take part. You can test electronic bikes and have your bicycle registered and checked for the new bicycle season.
On Sunday you can take part in the bicycle parade along the ring road. It starts at 12 noon and is a symbol for the importance of bicycles as a modern mean of transportation.
