POOL TIME- Vienna’s nicest outdoor pools
8. JulIt is summer again and we all want to escape the city’s heat. Here are some ideas of where to go to go swimming in Vienna.
Pescaria Konoba
5. JulOur front-desk team went to try out the restaurant next door; A high-class Croatian- Mediterranean restaurant, focusing on fish cuisine and exquisite food creations. The restaurant has got a cozy atmosphere and a small area to sit outside. The service was excellent. We felt well informed and advised by the friendly waiters. Their fish is always fresh and is delivered straight from Croatia 3x a week.
Film festival 2011
29. JunOne of the best places to be in Vienna during summer is the film festival at Rathausplatz. Starting on July 2nd it will attract thousands of people over the following weeks, providing an “outdoor cinema” free of charge(!) with classical dance-and music films as well as operas on a large video wall just in front of the beautiful scenery of Rathaus. Several films are shown every evening, starting as soon as it gets dark enough and only if it does not rain.
DiningCity restaurant week
26. JunThe DiningCity restaurant week is on again. From June 27th to July 3rd 2011 you can dine exclusively and pay surprisingly little.
There are numerous restaurants in Vienna that participate in this promotional week. You can get a 3-course surprise-dinner for 25€ and a 2-course lunch for 12.50€. Gourmet restaurants charge an additional 5€ or 10€ for lunch or dinner respectively.
Donauinselfest- Europe’s largest open air festival
23. JunThe Donauinselfest – Danube Island Festival- is the largest open air festival in Europe. It provides 7 areas with different styles of music. The so-called “islands” host: alternative, Indie, Hip Hop (FM4), Rock (ATV), Electro (PULS 4), Culture, Cabarett and international music (Ö1), German speaking folk music (Wr. Städtische), country and western (Donau Versicherung); and of course pop music (Ö3). The 28th Danube Island Festival will take place from Friday, 24th of June to Sunday 26th of June.
Rainbow Parade 2011
17. JunOn the 18th of June 2011 the 16th rainbow parade will take place in Vienna. Since 1996 the parade has become one of the most important events for the lesbian gay bisexual and transgender movement. It’s a sign for tolerance, equality and solidarity. Every year the parade reminds of the resistance of lesbians and gays against the police’s systematic repression in June 1969 in New York’s Christopher Street.
