Vienna Festival Weeks 2013

The “Vienna Festival Weeks” is a cultural festival in Vienna, which takes place during five weeks between May and June each year. The opening of the Vienna Festival Weeks traditionally takes place at Rathausplatz: about 41 productions from 36 countries will be shown during the five weeks.

The Vienna Festival Weeks are an innovative and international urban festival and offer international theater and a wide variety of contemporary art forms and languages.

The Museumsquartier, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Kunsthalle and f.e.Wien Museum Karlsplatz, are the venues for the festival.

The Vienna Ice Dream

The “Wiener Eistraum” (“Vienna Ice Dream”) has become a tradition. The park of Rathausplatz will be transformed into an icy landscape with all kinds of attractions: It offers wintry sports fun against the romantic backdrop of Rathaus.
If you do not have ice skates, you can borrow them for a rental fee. This also allows all tourists and Vienna’s visitors to participate. Various restaurateurs provide for short warm-up time with drinks such as punch, mulled wine, tea and dishes of national and international cuisine.

Film festival 2012

The 22^nd film festival at Rathausplatz is ready to open its gates on June 30^th for yet another great season. Until the 2^nd of September classical but also modern music shows and concerts can be followed from the large seating area around the huge screen on Rathausplatz. Carmen, Anna Bolena and La Bohème are only 3 of the many masterpieces that can be found on this summer’s programme. Films start when it gets dark and the best is: there is no admission fee.

Summer cinema Vienna

The summer cinema is getting more and more popular and it is one of the most favorite tourist activities in Vienna. If you want to enjoy cinema in a different way, you are right in Vienna. This year we have a large selection of open-air cinemas, in parks or also in front of town hall.

Vienna’s annual fair

From Friday the 25th until Monday the 28th of May, Vienna’s Rathausplatz will be transformed into a large funfair area.

There will be cultural and artistic programmes, a beer garden and booths where you can play different games, such as throwing soft balls into a pyramid of cans, carousels and children can ride a pony. There will be a lot of Austrian culinary delights. The official opening will be on Friday at 4pm held by Vienna’s major Dr.Michael Häupl. You can visit the annual fair daily from 10am to 11pm.

Rathausplatz (in front of the City Hall) is only a few stops by tram 49 away from Boutiquehotel Stadthalle.

Styria Festival at Rathausplatz

The annual Styria festival is back in town! Styria – a county in the south of Austria with its capital Graz – is well known for many things amongst which you can find the famous pumpkin seed oil and excellent wine! Each year in spring, the tourism organisation of Styria comes to Vienna to promote its county, its culinary delicacies and its sense of humour.

The festival will take place from Thursday 12^th of April until Sunday the 15^th of April in front of town hall (Rathausplatz). 11 different regions will present their specialties; there are lots of stands selling traditional food and of course wine! You will see lots of people dressed in traditional clothes and there is even a show programme with music and dance each day!

It is definitely worth a visit and you will surely find the one or the other deli to enjoy!

How to get there from the hotel: tram 49 till the last stop & then 5 minutes on foot along the ring road!

Christmas markets in Vienna

The time has come! Days are getting shorter, it is definitely much colder now and slowly the smell of Christmas cookies and mulled wine is filling the atmosphere.

Advent will be here soon and with it, all the many beautiful Christmas markets in Vienna! While the little ones can enjoy warm chestnuts, the older ones can warm up with a glass of Punsch or mulled wine.
