The 22nd film festival at Rathausplatz is ready to open its gates on June 30th for yet another great season. Until the 2nd of September classical but also modern music shows and concerts can be followed from the large seating area around the huge screen on Rathausplatz. Carmen, Anna Bolena and La Bohème are only 3 of the many masterpieces that can be found on this summer’s programme. Films start when it gets dark and the best is: there is no admission fee.
The summer cinema is getting more and more popular and it is one of the most favorite tourist activities in Vienna. If you want to enjoy cinema in a different way, you are right in Vienna. This year we have a large selection of open-air cinemas, in parks or also in front of town hall.
From October 20th to November 2nd the annual Viennale will take place. This international film festival is an absolute must in Vienna’s event scene.
Several Austrian and international premieres are going to be shown: documentaries, feature films, special programmes, retrospectives, biographies and tributes in lots of small and cosy cinemas in the city centre.
One of the best places to be in Vienna during summer is the film festival at Rathausplatz. Starting on July 2nd it will attract thousands of people over the following weeks, providing an “outdoor cinema” free of charge(!) with classical dance-and music films as well as operas on a large video wall just in front of the beautiful scenery of Rathaus. Several films are shown every evening, starting as soon as it gets dark enough and only if it does not rain.
