“It started out with an idea, an idea that became a symbol, a symbol that became a movement, a movement that unites our planet” (Earth Hour 2012)
Earth Hour once began in 2007 in Sydney, where more than 2 million people and more than 2000 businesses switched off their lights for one hour to show that they care for our planet. The plan for 2008 was to extend this event to the rest of Australia, but in this action had become so popular that more than 35 countries joined in.
Doing something, not just talking about it, is the main drive behind it. Last year 135 countries and more than 5000 cities and towns participated and united to make a difference. The event is organized by the WWF.
Earth hour 2012 will take place on March 31st, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. This year’s theme is “I will if you will”. On youtube many examples are showcased of people who commit to something if certain goals of long term actions to save our planet and stop climate change are realized.
… and what will you do?
On Thursday the 29th of March, the annual International Day will take place at Modul Tourism College. This event is a charity event, organized by international hotel management students who usually try to present their nations’ culture, history, facts and of course food and beverage specialties.
Vienna is not only known for its coffee culture, Sachertorte and the Lippizzaner, but it is also popular for the many glamorous balls.

On the 24th of November 2011 a cocktail tour around the city will take place in Vienna. Starting at 7pm you can visit several bars in the 4th, 5th and 6th district and consume one free cocktail in each of them, all with only one ticket. The cocktails are high quality drinks; most bars also offer non-alcoholic cocktails.
Lebkuchen hearts, steins of beer, Austrian traditional clothes Dirndl and Lederhosen, folk and pop music is what you will get, but also the little something Viennese that comes with it: exquisite Viennese cuisine and of course Viennese wines!!!
Summer in Vienna is just as exciting as going on holidays. There are numerous events taking place that can make every summer day a very special one. Vienna’s open air cinemas are part of them. There are lots of locations that show films outdoors, choose whether you prefer to sit on the roof of the main library, in front of Rathaus or close to the Danube. Here is a list of Vienna’s open air cinemas and links to the films they show (many of them are shown in the original version with subtitles=OmU). Enjoy your warm days outdoors!!
One of the best places to be in Vienna during summer is the film festival at Rathausplatz. Starting on July 2nd it will attract thousands of people over the following weeks, providing an “outdoor cinema” free of charge(!) with classical dance-and music films as well as operas on a large video wall just in front of the beautiful scenery of Rathaus. Several films are shown every evening, starting as soon as it gets dark enough and only if it does not rain.
