Klimt Musical

From the 1^st of September to the 7^th of October 2012 a musical on Klimt will be shown in Vienna. The musical covers the life of Austria’s most famous painter Gustav Klimt. It deals with his early works, his years of success, his dramatic strokes of fate and his love and muse Emilie Flöge. Mostly it will be underlined by excellent rock music.

On Wednesdays the performances will be held in English. They start at 7:30pm and take place at Künstlerhaus Wien

Tickets are available between 29,50€ and 69,50€ and can be purchased here.

To reach Künstlerhaus from our Boutiquehotel Stadthalle, take the underground U3 to Stephansplatz, change to U1 to Karlsplatz, take the exit “Akademiestraße-Künstlerhaus”.

Gustav Klimt’s 150th birthday

Last Saturday we celebrated Gustav Klimt’s 150th birthday. On this occasion all the guests of Boutiquehotel Stadthalle received a complimentary glass of jam, decorated with one of Klimt’s paintings!

Currently there are a lot of exhibitions to celebrate Gustav Klimt:

Leopold Museum: “Klimt: up close and personal”

Belvedere: Belvedere hosts the largest Klimt collection worldwide.

Arts-History Museum: For the first time paintings of the young Klimt can be looked at from the Klimt bridge in 12 meters height.

Film festival 2012

The 22^nd film festival at Rathausplatz is ready to open its gates on June 30^th for yet another great season. Until the 2^nd of September classical but also modern music shows and concerts can be followed from the large seating area around the huge screen on Rathausplatz. Carmen, Anna Bolena and La Bohème are only 3 of the many masterpieces that can be found on this summer’s programme. Films start when it gets dark and the best is: there is no admission fee.

POOL TIME- Vienna’s nicest outdoor pools

It is summer again and we all want to escape the city’s heat. Here are some ideas of where to go to go swimming in Vienna. Schönbrunnerbad: swim next to the palace of Schönbrunn. Easy to reach, provides a large area including a beach volleyball court and a wellness-restaurant. Here you get the opportunity to try out night swimming with flood light from July 1^st to August 15^th every night until 10pm. Opening hours: 8.30am to 10pm.

Summer Night Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

On the 7^th of June 2012 the open air Summer Night Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra takes place at the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace. The concert is at free admission and you can enjoy a fabulous event at a beautiful and unique ambience. This year it will be conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the principal conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Goteburg Symphony Orchestra and the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra wants to show  the beauty of classical music to everybody.

Our tip: come early to get a seat, or bring blankets to sit on the ground!

Vienna’s annual fair

From Friday the 25th until Monday the 28th of May, Vienna’s Rathausplatz will be transformed into a large funfair area.

There will be cultural and artistic programmes, a beer garden and booths where you can play different games, such as throwing soft balls into a pyramid of cans, carousels and children can ride a pony. There will be a lot of Austrian culinary delights. The official opening will be on Friday at 4pm held by Vienna’s major Dr.Michael Häupl. You can visit the annual fair daily from 10am to 11pm.

Rathausplatz (in front of the City Hall) is only a few stops by tram 49 away from Boutiquehotel Stadthalle.

Vienna Festwochen

For all those who love culture, music and arts!

On May 11^th 2012 the opening of the Vienna Festwochen will take place in front of the illuminated town hall. The opening ceremony will be the final competition of the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition – an international very important contest in classical music. An international jury will decide on who will be the best young musician of the year 2012.

But don’t worry. In case you are already busy that day, the Vienna Festwochen will take place until the 17^th of June. Here you can find all the dates and events planned. Enjoy the diversified culture and music programme!
