25. JulSummer in Vienna is just as exciting as going on holidays. There are numerous events taking place that can make every summer day a very special one. Vienna’s open air cinemas are part of them. There are lots of locations that show films outdoors, choose whether you prefer to sit on the roof of the main library, in front of Rathaus or close to the Danube. Bon Jovi live in Vienna
20. JulOn the 22nd of July 2011 – beware! – Bon Jovi live in Ernst Happel Stadion-Vienna! Once more Bon Jovi is going to rock the stadion of Vienna with one of his legendary concerts and shows.
Electric buses
15. Jul…in Vienna’s public transport network
Since some of the buses cruising Vienna, will soon have to be replaced, Vienna’s public transport company Wiener Linien is looking for new, environmentally friendly and sustainable, replacements. In the next couple of weeks several models of electric buses will be tested in the city centre. Buses number 3A and 2A are currently new electro buses operated by battery, made by the Italian company Rampini. The buses fit up to 44 passangers.

5. JulOur front-desk team went to try out the restaurant next door; A high-class Croatian- Mediterranean restaurant, focusing on fish cuisine and exquisite food creations. The restaurant has got a cozy atmosphere and a small area to sit outside. The service was excellent. We felt well informed and advised by the friendly waiters. Their fish is always fresh and is delivered straight from Croatia 3x a week.
Film festival 2011
29. JunOne of the best places to be in Vienna during summer is the film festival at Rathausplatz. Starting on July 2nd it will attract thousands of people over the following weeks, providing an “outdoor cinema” free of charge(!) with classical dance-and music films as well as operas on a large video wall just in front of the beautiful scenery of Rathaus. Several films are shown every evening, starting as soon as it gets dark enough and only if it does not rain.
DiningCity restaurant week
26. JunThe DiningCity restaurant week is on again. From June 27th to July 3rd 2011 you can dine exclusively and pay surprisingly little.
There are numerous restaurants in Vienna that participate in this promotional week. You can get a 3-course surprise-dinner for 25€ and a 2-course lunch for 12.50€. Gourmet restaurants charge an additional 5€ or 10€ for lunch or dinner respectively.
Donauinselfest- Europe’s largest open air festival
23. JunThe Donauinselfest – Danube Island Festival- is the largest open air festival in Europe. It provides 7 areas with different styles of music. The so-called “islands” host: alternative, Indie, Hip Hop (FM4), Rock (ATV), Electro (PULS 4), Culture, Cabarett and international music (Ö1), German speaking folk music (Wr. Städtische), country and western (Donau Versicherung); and of course pop music (Ö3). The 28th Danube Island Festival will take place from Friday, 24th of June to Sunday 26th of June.
Rainbow Parade 2011
17. JunOn the 18th of June 2011 the 16th rainbow parade will take place in Vienna. Since 1996 the parade has become one of the most important events for the lesbian gay bisexual and transgender movement. It’s a sign for tolerance, equality and solidarity. Every year the parade reminds of the resistance of lesbians and gays against the police’s systematic repression in June 1969 in New York’s Christopher Street.
Green expo 2011
16. JunExperience the green future from June 24th to 26th at Heldenplatz in Vienna’s city centre. This year will be the first time that the GREEN EXPO will take place. It shows how we can live our lives in a happier and a more sustainable and conscious way.
