Film festival 201129
One of the best places to be in Vienna during summer is the film festival at Rathausplatz. Starting on July 2nd it will attract thousands of people over the following weeks, providing an “outdoor cinema” free of charge(!) with classical dance-and music films as well as operas on a large video wall just in front of the beautiful scenery of Rathaus. Several films are shown every evening, starting as soon as it gets dark enough and only if it does not rain.
The programme is multifaceted, including films with Jazz legends such as Eric Clapton, dance stars such as Jiri Kylian and opera singers such as Anna Netrebko and Placido Domingo. Also Jamiroquai’s concert will be among this year’s films. This year’s focus will be on Gustav Mahler, who died 100 years ago, and on Placido Domingo’s 70th birthday.
Two of this summer’s must sees are the live-broadcast of Ludwig van Beethoven’s opera “Fidelio“ broadcast from the State Opera of Munich on July 8th 2011 and the live-broadcast of Guiseppe Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” on September 3rd 2011.
In addition to the lovely cultural programme, you can enjoy a wide variety of culinary delights. Every year there are numerous stands from local restaurants that provide excellent food, Indian, Greek, Croatian, Australian, Chinese and of course Austrian are among the choices, which are always hard to make. Food and drinks are available from 11am to 12pm.
The film festival is on break on the 5th and 6th of July due to the opening of the Maccabi Games.
Boutiquehotel Stadthalle wishes an enjoyable summer!
