Electric buses15. Jul
…in Vienna’s public transport network
Since some of the buses cruising Vienna, will soon have to be replaced, Vienna’s public transport company Wiener Linien is looking for new, environmentally friendly and sustainable, replacements. In the next couple of weeks several models of electric buses will be tested in the city centre. Buses number 3A and 2A are currently new electro buses operated by battery, made by the Italian company Rampini. The buses fit up to 44 passangers.
The Austrian newspaper Der Standard reported that the buses can reach a speed of up to 62 km per hour and travel up to 150 km without charging. This means that it would be an ideal solution for short-distance-routes in the city centre. The buses are charged in the garage over night, but once they really become part of Vienna’s transportation system, there should be a charging possibility somewhere along the routes, too.
By the end of July, 5 different models should have been tested and by the end of the year it will be clear which of the models will become the future buses of Vienna’s city centre!
