The time has come! Days are getting shorter, it is definitely much colder now and slowly the smell of Christmas cookies and mulled wine is filling the atmosphere.
Advent will be here soon and with it, all the many beautiful Christmas markets in Vienna! While the little ones can enjoy warm chestnuts, the older ones can warm up with a glass of Punsch or mulled wine.
Vienna is famous for its many different Christmas markets.
The largest Viennese Christmas market can be found at Rathausplatz. Rathausplatz and the park around it turns into a winter fairy land. The scenery is amazing. Wiener Christkindlmarkt am Rathausplatz: 12th of November 2011 – 24th of December 2011, daily 10am-9:30pm (on 24th of December only until 5pm).
Winter at Museumsquarter is one of the largest cultural areas, offering mulled wine, DJ Sounds and modern ambience. Winter im MQ: 10th of November – 23rd of December 2011
One of the most beautiful markets is the Altwiener Christkindlmarkt at Freyung in the city centre. It has existed since 1772 and offers traditional artworks and handicrafts as well as culinary delights. 18th of November – 23rd of December, daily 10am to 9pm.
The cultural and arts market at the Palace of Schönbrunn can also be recommended. The scenery is stunning. Moreover you can find handmade Christmas decoration. Weihnachtsmarkt Schloss Schönbrunn: 19th of November 2011 – 26th of December 2011, daily 10am-9pm. (special opening hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day)
