Viennese markets

18. Okt

In Vienna, there are 26 markets. 21 of them take place daily from Monday to Saturday. The markets are open all year and are always an attraction with great flair and tradition.

The three most famous Viennese markets are:

Naschmarkt, It is the largest market of the city, Karmelitermarkt one of the oldest markets of Vienna and Yppenmarkt-Brunnenmarkt – Vienna’s biggest street market.

We would also like to recommend other interesting markets, which can be reached from our Boutique Hotel Stadthalle within walking distance or by taking the subway line 3:

the organic market on Freyung (1st district) with numerous organic treats, natural cosmetics, handicrafts and ceramics has a long tradition as a marketplace.

Volkertmarket (2nd district) is a kosher jewel. When the sun shines, the market gives the impression of a big garden.

Rochusmarkt (3rd district): is one of the most popular open-air markets in Vienna.

Schwendermarkt (15th district) is a long drawn-out market that was almost forgotten in recent years.

Kutschkermarkt (18th district): you can shop almost like in the country. This market and Yppenmarkt are the last two Viennese street markets.

Neko Cafe: Vienna’s first coffee house cats!

5. Okt

Vienna, city of coffee culture, has a new attraction: Neko Cafe. It opened last May and is located in the city centre near Stephansplatz. Neko is the Japanese word for cat, and there in lays the peculiarity: While visitors drink coffee or tea, they can stroke one of the many cats of the cafe.

The trend to visit cats in the cafe and have a break with them is not new: in Japan, there have been cat’s cafes for years and it is common to pay admission to enter and to stay in the cafe.

In Vienna you only pay what you consume, you can taste Japanese tea and juices of Austrian farmers, homemade cakes and snacks.

The culinary delights are not the main focus for the visitors but especially the playing and cuddling of six cats is. Moritz, Luca, Haru, Momo, Sonia and Thomas are from the Vienna animal shelter and are considered to be particularly friendly and playful.

You reach the Neko Cafe from our Hotel with the U3 to Stephansplatz: Blumenstockgasse 5, on the corner with Balgasse, open daily 10:00-20:00.
