Organic & Fair Trade are really great ideas, but it can only prevail if the products are really high quality too! The company BioArt has been working for more than ten years for a more conscious and more equitable food handling. They also take care of their products to be fair priced, fair traded, sustainable, produced and processed with ethical responsibility.

Green Expo 2012

Discover the green future from the 11th to the 13th of May 2012 on Heldenplatz.

The Green Expo shows how you can live your life in a more sustainable and ecologic way and encourages a greater conscience for a green lifestyle. It will be the second time that it will take place.

The exhibition explains topics such as sustainability, environment and energy and it promotes green living. You can learn about renewable energy, try out bio-cosmetics, test e-bikes, hybrid and e-cars and find out how famous chefs run their life-balance-restaurants.

There will be many famous guests, such as chef Toni Mörwald, best-selling author and Almdudler boss Thomas Klein and many more.

Cleaning Vienna

It is the 7^th time that this event is taking place. This year’s spring-cleaning started on April 23rd and will be on until the 8th of May 2012. It is an event of the city government, supported by the local municipal authorities and a lot of private initiatives. Last year over 300 initiatives, schools, kindergartens, clubs and individuals (in total more than 11,600 citizens) took part and helped to clean our city.

Making people aware of how much waste they produce and how many people do not care to throw them out in proper bins, but rather place them anywhere in the streets. Initiatives are equipped with rubbish bags and gloves by the local authorities and the waste that was collected will be picked up and separated properly.

Vienna will even be cleaned under water. 100 divers will clean the Danube on the 28h of May.

What a great initiative!

Earth Hour 2012 – March 31st, 8:30pm

“It started out with an idea, an idea that became a symbol, a symbol that became a movement, a movement that unites our planet” (Earth Hour 2012)

Earth Hour once began in 2007 in Sydney, where more than 2 million people and more than 2000 businesses switched off their lights for one hour to show that they care for our planet. The plan for 2008 was to extend this event to the rest of Australia, but in this action had become so popular that more than 35 countries joined in.

Doing something, not just talking about it, is the main drive behind it. Last year 135 countries and more than 5000 cities and towns participated and united to make a difference. The event is organized by the WWF.

Earth hour 2012 will take place on March 31st, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. This year’s theme is “I will if you will”. On youtube many examples are showcased of people who commit to something if certain goals of long term actions to save our planet and stop climate change are realized.

Bike Festival and bicycle parade

This weekend Vienna celebrates its bicycles. In 2011 there were 11,061 people riding their bikes through the city on an average working day. The city of Vienna is working hard to extend the net of bicycle lanes. Currently there are 1,206 kilometres of bicycle lanes in the city.  And the more people ride their bikes the better the quality of life.

Energy and environment week for children

Our planet’s future depends on us!

The energy and environment week for children between 8 and 12 years of age will take place from November 8^th to November 11^th 2011. Children will get the opportunity to learn about the activities and measurements companies and public organizations take in order to act save our planet’s resources.

With the help of various presentations and creative workshops firms will portray what they invented and developed in order to save our planet. Our hotel will also be represented on Wednesday, 9^th of November 2011. Find out more about the programme and registration.

THE burger restaurant

Dear burger-lovers,

This is your place to be: „Die Burgermacher“ („the burger-makers“). Here you can find THE burger for your individual and personal taste.

Everything is home-made: the bread rolls, the fries and their ketchup. All the ingredients come from local farms and the meat, from small Austrian businesses, is delivered daily. The restaurant’s menu varies, because the owners emphasise the seasonality of their products.

Electric buses

…in Vienna’s public transport network

Since some of the buses cruising Vienna, will soon have to be replaced, Vienna’s public transport company Wiener Linien is looking for new, environmentally friendly and sustainable, replacements. In the next couple of weeks several models of electric buses will be tested in the city centre. Buses number 3A and 2A are currently new electro buses operated by battery, made by the Italian company Rampini. The buses fit up to 44 passangers.

Green expo 2011

Experience the green future from June 24th to 26th at Heldenplatz in Vienna’s city centre. This year will be the first time that the GREEN EXPO will take place. It shows how we can live our lives in a happier and a more sustainable and conscious way.

Wine & specialties tasting at Boutiquehotel Stadthalle

On Monday, the 6^th of June we hosted a wine & specialties tasting in the beautiful garden of Boutiquehotel Stadthalle. In cooperation with La Salvia, a deli specializing on wines and delis from Italy (Friuli-Venetia-Giulia) and Slovenia (Istria), and some of the winemakers, a variety of biodynamic wines and unpasteurized cheese, olive oils and organic fish such as sea bass were tasted and enjoyed.

The presentations and explanations were interesting and made us enjoy the specialties even more. The event was very successful and enjoyable!
